Of course water voles live in burrows and in order for them to get a good start in their new habitat, Alex (an MSc student from Glasgow University) and I went out today armed with soil augers to make a few short runs for them to take refuge in. During the course of the day we came across a few old burrows on Darley burn and added quite a few more across the catchment so that we can stock at various locations. The habitat was looking good everywhere and no mink tracks were found on any rafts.

All going well by tomorrow evening we will have done the same on the Slaphouse Burn too and will be ready to put voles out on Thursday morning.
