Derek Gow, our water vole breeder has sent our young voles on their journey back to their native homelands. The 450 mile trip from Devon to Ayrshire is the start of a new life and opportunity for these captive bred animals that originated from Ayrshire and Lanarkshire stock.
Later this week we will release these animals in two local burns and monitor their progress over the coming months.
Watch the blog for an update and photographs nearer the weekend.

Water Voles in Transit (or more likely a Hilux)

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010Our water voles are now heading to Cornwall. Edinburgh Zoo have kindly transported our voles to Derek Gow’s premesis in Cornwall where they will shortly be introduced to the breeding programme. We look forward to January when they will be introduced to potential new mates (it’s a water vole dating agency!). Hopefully by late February we will hear that everything is going to plan and they are breeding like rabbits, (so to speak).
