Over the weekend it appeared as though the smolt run was really starting to build with 26 and then 57 on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Following a small rise in water levels overnight and upwards of 50 fish in the trap yesterday morning, Muir and I headed to Catrine with high expectations of many smolts…..we were wrong! Only a handful today and so we’ll wait with bated breath until tomorrow.

With a cold winter our countryside seems to be two weeks behind schedule, time will tell if this is the same for our smolts.

It’s fantastic to see these fish transition into their black and silvery livery, fingers crossed for lots more over the next few days.

Setting up for processing and recording the catch.

A modest bucket of fish for Monday morning.
