With the River Doon District Salmon Fishery Board generously making available a substantial sum of funding to assist landowners with fencing of riparian margins, we have been out and about visiting farmers and measuring up burns.

So far we have agreements in principle to fence approximately 3km of fencing (subject to agreeing a final price) and another 4000m in the pipeline. Hopefully we can secure all these prospective agreements and see improvements to water quality and habitat in the years head. Whilst measuring up fencing, I’ve been looking at other improvements we could possibly make. I’ve added photos of a couple of burns that we hope to fence this year.

Drumgrange Burn near Patna would benefit from a bit of fencing.

I also came across this culvert and it will be interesting to see compare fish populations up and downstream of this and possibly improve fish passage if necessary. I saw this salmon parr just downstream of the culvert.
