Our fencing contractor is installing fencing in the Doon catchment at the moment. The River Doon DSFB agreed to fund a considerable percentage of the cost of this fencing to improve habitat and hopefully fish populations. In the long term, this should also deliver water quality improvements. The Trust has been responsible for knocking doors and negotiating agreements and the work.

Currently the fencer is at a farm near Patna where a small burn suffered from terrible erosion driven by stock access. As you can see in the photos below, a good buffer strip is being created and hopefully over winter we will plant a few native broadleaved trees and shrubs to help bind the worst eroding bankings together. Salmon currently spawn in the burn in low numbers. Hopefully in a year or two we will be able to report that this has increased considerably.
