It’s been a bad week for pollution with three separate incidents that we are aware of. The first was the incident on the Kilmarnock Water last Tuesday evening which resulted in trout and possibly salmon being killed. SEPA attended and traced the problem to a Scottish Water outfall. Scottish Water are investigating but it seems highly unlikely that the culprit will be traced.
We heard of another incident yesterday evening on the Warnock upstream of Kilbirnie town centre but have no details as yet. It has been reported to SEPA and they are following this up.
This morning I received a call from a Warranted bailiff who reported that the Irvine upstream of Newmilns was green. We called SEPA immediately informing them and again we await an update.
Three incidents within a week… is it any wonder our fish populations struggle?
