Salmon Conservation Measures for 2020 were laid before Scottish ministers and approved on the 17th December 2019.
Conservation of Salmon (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2019 come into force on 1 April 2020. (No salmon may be killed on any Scottish river before 1st April).

In Ayrshire, three rivers are designated category 3 which means they come under mandatory catch and release conservation measures in 2020:

The River Irvine and Annick Water
The River Ayr and Lugar
The Water of Girvan

Three rivers are designated category 2 meaning management action is necessary to reduce exploitation: catch and release should be promoted strongly in the first instance. The need for mandatory catch and release will be reviewed annually. The three category 2 rivers include:

The Garnock
The Doon
The Stinchar
