Helen and I completed the timed survey of the Water of Girvan today and the results appear at first glance to be better than ever before. I’ll pass these to Gillian to look at along with the other rivers results as she is stuck in the office at the moment with a bad back. The best site we found anywhere this year produced over 64 fry per minute which is far better than anything we have ever seen before.  This result was from the Girvan at Merkland bridge. Other sites on this river were exceptional too.

Interestingly I had a call from Brian Shaw about our results as he too is finding a big improvement this year on the Spey. I’m sure we will further discuss the possible reasons why we have found such good results this year once we have analysed them fully. I will call around other trusts and see how they have fared.

We now move onto electrofishing the tributaries for the DSFB’s and also consultancy work for developments. This will allow us to see how tributaries have fared and how healthy the trout populations are as they tend to be produced in the burns rather than the main stems. I’ll post updates here regularly.
