I had a quick visit back to Girvan today to meet the contractors. Rising river levels had put a stop to any work today but provided ideal conditions for fish to run.
Quite a few salmon and sea trout were seen using the new fish pass, including small sea trout under 1lb in weight (can you see the fish in the photo below?)
It is difficult to get a good photo of a fish in that situation, they pass through so quickly but this close up shows it better.
Good to see that the fish pass is proving attractive to the fish and that a variety of sizes were able to utilise it.
There is a good attractant flow below the fish pass.
The works on the upper fish pass are not finished yet but if water levels drop tomorrow that part of the project could be finished.
